Recent report by Akamai and Jupiter Research says that ‘4 Seconds’ is the New Threshold of Acceptability for Retail Web Page Response.
Is this something new? Not really. What has changed is the “patience” level of browsers. With better net connections no one is willing to wait!
The real challenge for site designers would be to reduce the page sizes and to improve the rendering to display the action points first. See this article on webresponse time. The tips still hold true.
This would also mean increased usage of Web 2.0 stuff. For example, more widgets based on technologies like AJAX. So, instead of refreshing the page, we refresh just the required information element.
